The administrative heart of Trans Nzoia County
The municipality was founded in 1908 by white settlers, and it started as a relay station on the slave route between Uganda and Tanzania. Slaves were quartered at what is now the Kitale Club. The Municipality is one of the major urban areas in the Western part of Kenya.
